Rooted in the Seaboard, Tested in the Uplands: Amateur Golf in its Purest Form
The Seaboard Golf Society
The Seaboard Golf Society is a private amateur golf society created for serious players who value competitive integrity, traditional venues, and a disciplined approach to tournament golf. Designed as a limited-field amateur tour, the Society operates across New England, hosting one championship-caliber event in each of the six states: Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
Each season consists of six total events, with one tour stop per state. Fields are intentionally limited to preserve the quality of competition, pace of play, and overall experience. Typical event fields will range from 20 to 32 players, depending on course access and tee sheet availability.
Competitive Standard
The Seaboard Golf Society is open to accomplished amateur golfers who meet a defined competitive threshold. Applicants must hold a USGA Handicap Index of 6.0 or lower at the time of application. While handicap is an entry requirement, membership selection also considers a player’s commitment to travel, competitive demeanor, and respect for the traditions of the game.
Membership is capped to ensure event viability while allowing for natural scheduling conflicts. Not all members are expected to compete in every event; however, applicants must demonstrate a willingness to travel to at least three of the six annual championships, which are distributed evenly across New England.
Flights, Fields & Competitive Structure
Flights are determined on an event-by-event basis using current Handicap Indexes and competitive performance. Because availability and travel vary throughout the season, flights may shift between events to maintain balanced competition and strong fields. This flexible structure allows the Society to preserve a high level of play without penalizing members who cannot attend every tour stop.
When demand exceeds available tee times for a specific event, priority will be given based on a combination of registration order, season participation, and competitive balance. Clear field and alternate procedures are communicated in advance of each championship.
Season-Long Points Race
The Society conducts a season-long points competition designed to reward excellence without requiring full-season travel. Points are earned at each event, with the Society Champion determined by a golfer’s best three finishes during the season. This structure ensures the title reflects sustained high-level performance while remaining accessible to members with limited schedules.
Prizes & Amateur Status
All event prizes are awarded in compliance with the Rules of Amateur Status, with options available for golfers who wish to retain amateur status or compete for cash equivalents in accordance with governing regulations. Full prize policies are published in the Player Manual.
Course Inventory
The final course inventory for the upcoming season will be released later in February. All venues will reflect the Society’s commitment to traditional architecture, strategic challenge, and championship-quality conditions.
Consideration
The Society reviews applications from players who meet the competitive standard and demonstrate alignment with its values. Membership is limited, and not all qualified applicants will be accepted.
Those seeking a traditional, disciplined amateur championship structure across New England will find SGS aligned with their expectations.
Applicants must demonstrate:
A qualifying Handicap Index (6.0 or less)
Willingness to travel to multiple championship sites
Respect for the traditions and expectations of competitive amateur golf. Prospective members are invited to apply for consideration; submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. Membership is capped annually to maintain field quality and operational integrity.
Membership Timeline
The Seaboard Golf Society is currently accepting applications for seasonal membership. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis during the open application period. Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance.
The application period will close once membership capacity is reached or at the discretion of the Society.
